SSCC Founding Members
The Salem Shadow Chamber of Commerce supports, recognizes, and preserves useful commercial practices among the enterprises that have made this community what it is today: a thriving gift shop destination. Some of these businesses made a profit. Some are gone. The Shadow Chamber notes this without further comment.
This registry is maintained not as nostalgia, but as evidence. Each founding business contributed something essential to Salem’s commercial tradition: urgency, confidence, paperwork, selective memory, and a durable willingness to sell the experience back to visitors.
The Shadow Chamber recognizes its Founding Members in the manner it considers most appropriate: by affixing their names, marks, and questionable legacies to sellable merchandise. Their existence is difficult to verify. Their marketing potential is real.
